Iranian Students Bag 4 Silver Medals at Int'l Computer Olympiad

TEHRAN -- The members of Iran's National Computer Olympiad Team won four silver medals in the 10th International Computer Olympiad held in Portugal, and ranked 6th in the competitions. The Center for Young Researchers announced yesterday that students from over 66 countries participated in the olympiad, and that Iran ranked 6th after Slovakia, China, Poland, Korea and Russia. The four members of Iran's National Computer Olympiad Team, winning the medals, are Shahab Oveis Qarn, Behshad Behzadi, Pouyan Khajeh Amir and Nasser Faramarzpour. Last year, the Iranian team won one silver and three bronze medals and ranked 8th in the competitions.

According to a notification of the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, those who rank first in the international olympiads are admitted to university without passing any entrance exam in the relevant field. In the academic session 1377-1378 (September 1998-September 1999), seven students having participated in Physics Olympiads, 10 in Mathematics Olympiads, six in Chemistry Olympiads and six in Computer Olympiads were admitted to university without any entrance exam.
